Welcome to The David Helwani Project, featuring our first artist in spotlight: Chi Modu.
The Chi Modu by The David Helwani Project was born from founder David Helwani's love of music, art, and fashion.
A chance encounter with photographer Chi Modu on the streets of Soho, NY led to the creation of this seminal wearable art project. Establishing a gallery like no other, the "World's First Wearable Art Gallery".
Chi's photos include some of the most groundbreaking, memorable images of Hip Hop's golden era. After honing his skills at the International Center of Photography, Chi landed at The Source, the definitive magazine of hip hop culture. It was there that he developed relationships with the biggest icons of the hip hop movement, including Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.
Chi not only chronicled and defined the most important phase of the hip hop movement, now a global force, he was also successful at highlighting his subjects as real people, rather than one-dimensional celebrities.
We hope you enjoy your time at The David Helwani Project. Thank you.
